Description

The 3S Colorimeter is a compact analytical instrumentation for online analysis and process monitoring. The colorimeter is based on a color-developing chemical reaction carried out inside the analyzer glass cell. The sample, comining from an external reservoir or process stream is autonomously grabbed by the instrument and mixed with the appropriate reagents to make the reaction happen. The analyzer uses an LED light source and a photodiode to photometrically measure the developed color intensity (absorbance). The absorbance is proportional to the concentration of the target chemical species (analite).

The determination ranges of the manganese analyzer vary from trace μg/L to 50 mg/L Mn2+ using the (optional) internal dilution module. Ranges also depend on the colorimetric method used.

Method

This parameter has more than one analytical method. Choose one below.

The determination of traces of manganese is performed photometrically using LMG method. Manganese in lower valency states is oxidised to form permanganate by the action of an oxidising agent. The formed manganese dioxide is able to oxidize leucomalachite green to malachite green. Malachite green is intensive blue colored when the solution is buffered between pH=4 and pH=5. This blue color (absorbance) intensity is proportional to the manganese concentration in the sample and is measured at 430 nm.
