Description

The 3S-UV254 is a spectrophotometric analyzer for the determination of absorption at 254 nm. This parameter often called SAC (Spectral Absorption Coefficent) is a measurement related the organic load in aqueous streams and therefore is often used to determine water quality. In many cases the absorbance determined by the analyzer at 254 nm can be related to the organic content sum parameters such as TOC, COD and BOD by applying an appropriate conversion factor. The analyzer absorbance value can be also calibrated on a specific target substance. The analysis process lasts less than one minutes and in many cases does not require sample pretreatment due to the automatic turbidity compensation.

Method

The determination of dissolved organic substances is performed photometrically at 254 nm. To minimize the inteference of the sample turbidity or other matrix effects a second measurement at 590 nm is taken. The compensated absorbance is proportional to the concentration of dissolved organic substances that absorbs in the UV region.
